Folville Junior School

SMSC & British Values

At Folville, we are dedicated to promoting British values and fostering the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development of our children. These elements are integral to our curriculum and the overall ethos of our school, ensuring that our pupils grow into well-rounded, respectful, and responsible individuals.

British Values

We actively promote the fundamental British values of:

  • Democracy: Encouraging pupils to understand and participate in democratic processes and teaching them the importance of having a voice and making decisions collectively.
  • The Rule of Law: Helping children understand the importance of laws, how they protect us, and the responsibilities involved in following them. We reinforce this through our behaviour policies and school expectations.
  • Individual Liberty: Supporting pupils to make informed choices in a safe and supportive environment, fostering self-confidence and self-awareness.
  • Mutual Respect: Teaching the importance of respecting others, celebrating diversity, and understanding different cultures and beliefs.
  • Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs: Promoting an inclusive environment where all pupils feel valued and respected, regardless of their background or beliefs.

SMSC Development

Our commitment to SMSC development is reflected in our comprehensive approach to the curriculum which includes:

  • Spiritual Development: Encouraging children to explore their own beliefs and values, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world.
  • Moral Development: Helping pupils to distinguish right from wrong, understand the consequences of their actions, and develop a strong moral compass.
  • Social Development: Promoting positive relationships, teamwork, and community involvement, preparing children to be active and responsible citizens.
  • Cultural Development: Celebrating cultural diversity, encouraging an appreciation of different cultures, and fostering a sense of identity and belonging.

By embedding British values and SMSC development into our daily practices, we aim to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential.
