Folville Junior School

Supporting SEND Pupils

At Folville Junior School, we are dedicated to supporting every child, recognising that each one may need additional help for various reasons. We strive to identify any barriers to learning, including English as an Additional Language (EAL) and reading skills, to ensure all children can thrive.

Our curriculum is designed to challenge all students and help them make good progress each year. We use interventions like colourful semantics and Lexia, and we collaborate directly with Leicester City for additional support and expertise.

We understand that not all pupils achieve in the same way, and we are proud of the support we provide to families to find the right path for their child's future. We work closely with families, specialist teaching services, and other professionals to ensure that any child with additional needs receives the best support to reach their full potential.

Children may be identified with special educational needs (SEN) when their learning difficulty or disability requires different or additional provision compared to their peers. For some, SEN can be identified early, while for others, difficulties may become evident over time. We work as a team to flag any concerns promptly, allowing us to identify and address children's needs as early as possible.

Our classrooms are inclusive and friendly, designed to support children with various needs, such as ASD and dyslexia. All children have access to the full curriculum, and we celebrate their achievements in all areas. When necessary, we tailor the curriculum to individual needs and provide additional interventions to support them.

For children with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), we implement the provisions outlined in their plan and adjust based on ongoing needs and guidance from other agencies, such as educational psychologists, autism outreach services, and speech and language therapists (SALT). Our SEN support follows a four-part process: assess, plan, do, review. This ensures that support is continually adapted based on the pupil's response and progress, considering the views of all involved.

Additional adult support is tailored to meet individual needs, whether on a 1:1 basis or in small groups. The specific nature of support depends on the pupil's needs, and teachers discuss additional provision with parents and pupils. Our goal is to help pupils develop the skills needed to become active and independent learners.

If you have any questions about your child's progress, please contact the class teacher or our SENDCO.
