About Us
Folville Junior School is a vibrant, multicultural community at the heart of Braunstone, Leicester. Our pupils bring a rich diversity of languages, cultures, and experiences — as of October 2024, 37 languages are spoken across our school. English, Polish, and Romanian are the most common, but over a third of our pupils speak one of 34 other languages. This diversity is one of Folville’s greatest strengths, creating a community where every background is valued and every voice is heard.
Many of our families have deep roots in Braunstone, with several generations having attended Folville, while others are new to the area and often new to the UK. Together, they reflect modern Leicester — inclusive, ambitious, and proud of its heritage.
Founded in 1939 as a Girls’ Secondary School, Folville retains a unique character that blends history with innovation. Today, it is a safe and nurturing community delivering excellence — a school built on strong relationships, inclusion, and trust. Every aspect of our work, from safeguarding and behaviour to teaching and leadership, is shaped by care, consistency, and the belief that every child deserves to thrive.
Our ethos — 'a safe and nurturing community delivering excellence' — underpins everything we do. We believe that care, respect, and high expectations create the foundations for success. We care deeply about our children, we challenge them to achieve their best, and we work tirelessly to remove barriers so that every pupil can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. At Folville, we live by the belief that every 'child deserves a champion'.
Our curriculum reflects the world our pupils live in and the community they belong to. It is ambitious, inclusive, and rooted in real-world understanding. Our expectations are clear and consistent, helping every child to feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. At Folville, we teach and model what it means to be part of a calm, respectful, and purposeful community.
Pupils are encouraged to be 'ready to learn', wearing their uniform with pride, listening carefully, and moving quietly around the school. They learn to be 'good listeners and communicators' through active listening, participation, and the belief that everyone’s voice matters. We expect our children to 'take responsibility' for their choices, to try their best, to say sorry when things go wrong, and to keep improving. Above all, we show 'respect and kindness', ensuring that every member of our school community feels valued and supported.
These shared expectations underpin our ethos and create a learning environment where children achieve academically, grow personally, and treat others with care and integrity. We are proud of our pupils’ calm, purposeful attitudes, their love of reading, and the creativity shown through our strong musical offer and wider curriculum.
Our staff team — highly experienced and remarkably stable — bring passion, expertise, and a shared commitment to continual improvement. Many have worked at Folville for over a decade, providing consistency, care, and a deep understanding of our community.
Our strategic aims focus on maintaining a calm, safe environment; delivering a high-quality, knowledge-rich curriculum; embedding inclusive and adaptive teaching; and developing distributed leadership that nurtures expertise and trust.
At Folville, we care personally, challenge directly, and work together to deliver excellence for every child — building a community where every learner is seen, supported, and inspired to succeed.
