Supporting SEND Pupils
At Folville Junior School, we are committed to ensuring that every child can thrive. We know that some children may need additional support at different points in their journey, and we work hard to identify and remove any barriers to learning — whether that’s developing reading skills, supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL), or addressing other needs.
Our curriculum is ambitious and inclusive, designed to challenge all pupils and help them make strong progress each year. Where extra help is needed, we provide targeted interventions such as Colourful Semantics and Lexia, and we work closely with Leicester City services to access specialist expertise.
We understand that children achieve in different ways, and we are proud of the partnerships we build with families to find the right path for every child. Working alongside specialist teaching services and other professionals, we ensure that pupils with additional needs receive the best possible support to reach their full potential.
Some children may be identified with Special Educational Needs (SEN) when their learning difficulty or disability requires provision that is different or additional to their peers. For some, this is clear early on; for others, needs may emerge over time. Our team acts quickly to flag concerns and put support in place, following the assess–plan–do–review cycle to make sure provision is responsive and effective.
Our classrooms are inclusive and welcoming, with adaptations to support a wide range of needs, including autism and dyslexia. Every child has access to the full curriculum, and we celebrate achievements in all areas. Where necessary, we tailor learning and provide additional interventions to help children succeed.
For pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), we implement the provisions outlined in their plan and work closely with agencies such as educational psychologists, autism outreach, and speech and language therapists (SALT) to ensure support meets evolving needs.
Additional adult support is carefully planned — whether one-to-one or in small groups — to help pupils develop independence and confidence as learners. Teachers discuss provision with parents and pupils so that everyone is clear and involved.
If you have any questions about your child’s progress or support, please contact their class teacher or our SENDCO. We are here to work with you and ensure every child feels safe, ready, and supported to achieve their very best.
